To help control noise and maintain temperatures, apply, remove, and repair insulation on equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems.
Determines the amounts and selects required insulation material, such as fiberglass, foam rubber, Styrofoam, cork, or urethane, based on their ability to retain heat, location, surface, shape, and equipment use.
Access holes with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement or asphalt mastic can be used to cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces.
Fit insulation around obstructions and shape protective coverings.
To protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage, install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws.
Cut insulation using tape measures, knives, and scissors.
Attach metal pins to surfaces to prepare them for insulation application.
It is possible to cover or seal insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure it to a structure.
Clean-up and housekeeping activities are performed by this person.
Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.Other duties are performed.
Journeyman has 3 years and above documented field experience in a chosen craft discipline with the ability to read and interpret instructions.
A high school degree is required with previous years of experience in the field or a related area.Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in a particular field.Instructions and guidelines are used to perform the functions of the job.Work is under immediate supervision.Primary job functions don't usually require independent judgement.Usually reports to a supervisor.
